First of all: What is LCA?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)<\/strong> analysis is the most complete tool for assessing the environmental impact of products and services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Formalised in 1993 at the SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) Congress<\/a>, it is a scientific method based on the collection of data<\/strong> that allows results to be replicated or modified<\/strong> and considers the human-environment relationship in a holistic manner<\/strong>, making it the most effective method among those currently in existence.<\/p>\n

In practice, companies use it to measure the effects that a product or service has on the environment throughout its entire life cycle<\/strong>, i.e. at each stage of the supply chain that brings it to market and beyond.
\nThese stages<\/strong>, in brief, are:<\/p>\n

  1. the procurement of the resources<\/strong> needed for production<\/li>\n
  2. the actual production<\/strong> of the good<\/li>\n
  3. storage<\/strong> of the good together with other goods, packaging<\/strong>, transport<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. distribution<\/strong> to customers and retailers<\/li>\n
  5. its use<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. its disposal<\/strong> and that of its packaging.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Each of these phases brings with it a series of activities that, depending on how they are carried out, cause greater or lesser negative effects on the environment<\/strong>. LCA analysis<\/strong> makes it possible to quantify<\/strong> them.<\/p>\n
